Garden Plans- Spring

I've pretty much finished my spring garden plan for the Postage Stamp Potager (PSP) and the container garden I'm planning for the concrete pad next to it.  This year, instead of just a basic outline in Excel, I went for the works so I could try and plan the colors of the lettuces etc.  Once you figure out how Excel works it is ridiculously easy.
Remember the area, with the new expansion is 9 ft x 18 ft.

The Postage Stamp Potager- Plans are subject to change at a moments notice.

The container garden will be on the concrete pad which is 10 ft x 10 ft.  Two of the 24 inch containers are self watering,  Four other large containers will have aqua spikes for additional water.  One of the benefits of the container garden is that with the pots that are 14 inches or smaller, I have such an abundance that if a crop isn't finished I can move the pot elsewhere and put the new pot in it's place.

The new container garden- Plans may change with a moments notice.

Now that I have a handle on spring, I can concentrate on summer and fall.  Summer and fall have two additional areas that I'll be planning with edibles.  The driveway bed and the back portion of the pool bed.

How are your plans coming along?

  1. My plans change at a moment's notice ;-) I have planned out my hoop bed (crops that are ravaged by leaf miners) and my peppers bed (a new spot with more sunshine). My lettuces will be in their same bed, where they get shade from the hot afternoon sun, and bird netting covered hoops. Several changes are planned, like using the back fence for pole beans. The rest of my plans are still dancing around in my head, waiting to be put down on paper....er, computer.

  3. Granny, Half the fun is changing your mind. This is the first year my plans have been so detailed, but I'm determined to avoid the jungle this area turns into by mid summer!

Robin, Thanks! It was your post that inspired doing my plans this way. Now I just need to finish planning the rest of the year...

  4. I really like your plans and combinations that you are planting together Ed.
The problem with my garden is that it is getting changed too much because of the gardener despite the plans. LOL!

  5. Great looking plans, I wish I could say mine were coming along as good as yours. I just kind of haphazardly plant whatever and try to make sure I plant it in a different area then before. That is an awesome amount of lettuce.

  6. Lona, Thanks, Im going to try and stick to the plan this year. I have to realize that there is really NOT room for something else!

Kris, Planting haphazrdly was I used to go, but I really want to avoid the jungle that lways turns into. The first draft of the plan had triple the amount of lettuce!

  7. Great inspiration. Of course I need to get the actual garden area planned out. Doign raised beds, but starting from scratch so I need to define my space, and then see how much space I have for the beds and start deciding on sizes...4x4, 4x8, 2x16, 3x3...sigh, so many choices so little time left to get it together. Maybe I shouldn't be so grandiose in my plans, ha.

  9. I have tried container gardening and just didn't work for me. Do you have any advice for me or do you have a post with information on container information? Thank you.
