Harvest Monday is hosted by Daphne's Dandelions. Stop by and see what other's have harvested this passed week.
The beans are really starting to produce. right now it's mostly bush beans, but the pole beans should be taking over very soon.
Mixed beans both bush and pole, slightly over a pound. |
From the left, 'Cherokee Wax', 'Velour', 'Fortrex', 'Cornetto Largo Verde' and 'Greencrop'. |
Tomatoes are trickling in and the shallots are being pulled a few at a time.
"Silvery For Tree' and 'Victor' tomatoes, 'Ambition' shallots. |
The cherry tomatoes are starting to turn colors. I noticed this on 'Italian Dwarf Cherry' and 'Amy's Apricot'. The 'Black Cherry' tomatoes are taking their sweet time ripening.
This week I'm hoping to start harvesting my summer lettuce.
'Redina', 'Nevada' and 'Cardinale' lettuce from Renee's Garden Seed 'Summer Bouquet Mixed' lettuce. |
Yeh... an earlybird like me! As I was reading your harvest, it seemed you were close to me as I'm harvesting about the same things. Yes, Western Maryland is not that far from central PA. Nice harvest.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chili! Tou're right, we are not that far from each other. No wonder our harvests are similiar.
DeleteBeautiful beans. I didn't pick a lot of beans this week which is good since I can catch up with what I've already harvested.
ReplyDeleteThanks Daphne, if I had as many beans as you, I'd be taking a break too.
DeleteVery nice harvest. Our bush beans are just beginning to produce as well. The tomatoes seem to be taking their sweet time to ripen though.
ReplyDeleteGrafix, my tomatoes are finally starting to ripen. Picked the first of three different cherries tonight!
DeleteGreat harvests! I do love our bush beans and their ability to continually produce for us! I do hope you get to harvest a bit of lettuce this week! Good luck :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bee Girl, I have to thin the pots to one plant per clump, so I should get lettuce to go with my first cherry tomatoes.
DeleteBeans are starting up here too. Not quite as far along as yours but soon! Your lettuces look healthy, sweet, and tender. I need to start planting more lettuces soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm surprised the lettuce is doing so well considering the temps have bben consistantly above 90 degrees
DeleteWow, your lettuces look so nice! My summer lettuces look about a fourth that size. We are really missing salads. Beans are the big one here too. They are always so dependable.
ReplyDeleteNutmeg, the lettuce is growing very quickly. I think it really likes the spot it's in with some afternoon shade.
DeleteBeautiful! My beans are pretty much done now so have to wait for next wave.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny, when my bush beans are through, the poles beans should be reacking their peak!
DeleteAre those Romano beans you're growing? They're my favorite for freezing!
ReplyDeleteThey are a Romana variety. The seed came from a mixture that Park Seed used to sell. I have never seen the individual variety for sale in the USA.
DeleteAhhh, to able to grow lettuce and tomato at the same time! Great harvest.
ReplyDeletePicked my first cherry tomatoes tonight. Can't wait to combine them with the lettuce.!
DeleteI love the beans. Mine are all done and pulled from the garden.
ReplyDeleteThe bush beans will be done soon, but the pole beans are starting to come into their own.
DeleteNice harvest - what are the purple ones?
ReplyDeleteThanks David. The purple beans are a bush filet bean called 'Velour'. The seed was from Johhny's Selected Seeds.
DeleteI'd love to know how your Nevada lettuce turns out. We have some planted to but it won't be ready for a while. This will be our first year growing it.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep you posted on how it does. It's my first year grwoing it too.
Deletewhat a nice harvest; wishing I could have lettuce and tomatoes at the same time!
ReplyDeleteMary, this will be the first year that I've managed to get a harvest of them at the same time.
DeleteI'm a native Marylander, transplanted to Northern California, and I swear I'm having to unlearn everything I know about gardening because our seasons are so strange.
ReplyDeleteIt must be hard trying to adapt. There was a big difference between gardening in NJ and MD. A difference of only 200+ miles.
DeleteI love the multi-coloured beans, I must try a few different varieties this spring. And that little pot of lettuce looks very sweet.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love the way the three colors of beans look. It's a shame that the purple turn green when cooked.
DeleteHi from Baltimore County! Your cooler temps make a difference in what you are harvesting compared to what I'm getting. Do you have critter issues? Bears?
ReplyDeleteMarcia, I have no large critter issues. Rabbits, etc are kept out by 6 ft fenve surrounding the backyard. Bugs I have- the beans have a few holes in the leaves from the occasional slug. That's about it, no other problems.
Deleteyou have got good harvest. but how to grow purple beans? Beans is one of my favorite food, which have harvest each year in my garden. We need garden maintenance tips to grow healthy plants.
ReplyDeleteNice mixture. My pole beans are killed this months from the rains, only long beans have survived. Time to replant, yet again. LOL.
