Harvest Monday- May 7, 2012

Harvest Monday  is hosted by Daphne's Dandelions.  It's a great way to show off your harvest and see what everyone else is picking.

The weeks harvest was mostly greens, with a bigger radish harvest.

'White Icicle' and 'Zlata' radish.

A sampling of the 'Siamese Dragon Thai Green Mix'.

Baby lettuce and Swiss chard.

'Scarlet' spinach.

About one pound of spinach, most of the leaves are huge.

A representative sized leaf from 'Giant Nobel'.  Most of the leaves are now growing to this size in a week!
I did not harvest any arugula this weekend.  I'll be saving that to pick through out the week.

  1. That's some great spinach you have there! I hope that my spring spinach takes off. Time will tell. Now, I have to go feed your fish!

  2. That's a great spinach! I will have to try some next spring . How were those radishes on taste? I'm looking for radish that is very sweet and not too peppery so I can get my hubby to eat them.

    1. Jenny, the White Icicle radish are hot. Zlata is milder but still has it's moments with heat. I just read somewhere that Watermelon radish is supposed to be very mild.

  3. Beautiful harvest. My Tyee spinach leaves get that big, but the Olympia spinach is smaller. I find the large leaves make for some easy picking.

    1. Thanks Daphne. I've always grown Tyee but the leaves were always small. It was directed seeded, so that is probably the reason. Next year I want to try pre-sprouting and transplanting Tyee and Renegade.

  5. You are a fellow Marylander. My spinach is not that big leaf variety but I got some from my mother's garden that was that large and very good, too.

    1. Thanks Mary! This year I am planting with an eye to ornamental as well as edible. I'm going to start the Thai greens indoors this fall so I can keep the varieties seperate in the garden.
