Harvest Monday- August 27, 2012

Harvest Monday is hosted by Daphne's Dandelions.  It's a great way to see what other bloggers are harvesting from their gardens.

The weather was some what improved this week.  I was able to get outside after work a few nights this week.

Bush beans, 'New Big Dwarf' tomatoes and 'Diva' cucumbers.

'Italian Dwarf Cherry', 'Black Cherry', 'Reisenstraube', 'Amy's Apricot' and 'Victor' tomatoes.

'Diva' cucumber and the first of the 'Lazy Wife Greasy' pole beans.

More tomatoes.

'Quadrati D'asti Giallo' pepper from seed supplied by Granny.

It's back!!!  'Cardinale', 'Redina' and 'Thai Oakleaf' lettuce.
The summer lettuce has had much less problems with bugs.  There was absolutely no bug damage!  The fact that it is all pot grown may help in this respect too.

My 'Bolero' marigolds in pool bed #2 are gorgeous.  The only problem is that my camera is horrible at capturing the color.  I've tried in sun, shade etc. and the blooms always look like blobs.  This picture is the best of the bunch.

Someday I'll take a great photo of them!

    1. Thanks Daphne! The wait for them has been worth it for the peppers.

  3. Very nice harvest! And lettuce! I miss lettuce so much and just have never had much knack at growing it in the late summer. Maybe I should try growing it in a pot too.

    1. Thanks! This is the first tiem I've tried it in pots during the summer. I have a gorgeous baby butterhead. It's the first time I've ever had a butterhead make a real head!

  4. I really like to grow lettuces in pots. I get good results that way and I think the soil conditions are more to their liking too. While that may not be a true likeness of them, those marigolds are sure pretty.

    1. I've noticed you grow a lot of lettuce in pots. Next spring I'll be trying a few pots too. I'll also be trying onions in pots based on your success :)

    1. Thanks Mary, it's so nice to have fresh lettuce to go with tomatoes and cucmbers. The lettuce has done surprisingly well despite the heat.

  6. Isn't it odd that your successes this year are my failures! My pepper crop leaves a lot to be desired, and bugs have eaten all of my lettuce. I love those marigolds. I had some that volunteered a couple of years ago that I thought were gorgeous, very similar to those. Unfortunately they didn't volunteer this year, or if they did I inadvertently pulled them out.

    1. This has definately been a banner lettuce year. It is a bit strange that are successes are polar opposites. My pepper plants are very small, but have big peppers. Just picked a few more today. I'll send you some 'Bolero' marigold seeds this winter. I have to buy some more seed. I could not get a saved marigold seed to germinate if my life depended on it!

  8. I never got around to planting some summer lettuce this year and we are missing it. Our fall crop is in but we are still about 6 weeks away from any harvest so I'm really jealous. Just today we were saying a salad with some fresh tomatoes sounded good!!

    1. This is the first year that I have been able to grow good lettuce duting the summer. The new varieties seem to be much more heat tolerant. Your fall lettuce will be worth the wait.
